The Picardy Homeland

The region of Picardy in northern France, attached to the crown of France in 1477 is and located between the borders of the Ile de France, Normandy, Artois and Champagne. Picardy, with its large fertile plains of grain and sugar beet, its lush undergrowth and woodlands all provide ideal cover for game birds. Picardy, with the River Somme at its heart, the River Authie to the north and the River Bresle to the south of the region all terminating at the English Channel give rise to diverse marsh and wetlands which provide plenty of reeds, rushes, Willows and Poplars and is a perfect natural habitat and wilderness for waterfowl. The Picardy Spaniels are powerful, hardy dogs which were developed by hunters to be at home either on land or marsh, in wood or thicket, in summer or winter, in rain or ‘shine, in this hunter's paradise. They were bred by hunters in France - then as now - to hunt sparse game birds and to put food on the hunters table.
